"Cotton Fields," also known as "The Cotton Song," was written and first recorded in 1940 by Huddie Ledbetter, Better known of course as Lead Belly. It has been covered many times by artists as diverse as Odetta, Credence Clearwater, Harry Belafonte, Johnny Cash, Charlie Pride, and the Beach Boys.
