Last summer when I watched the remake of Roots, I was surprised to learn that much of the action took place in North Carolina. For some reason I'd envisioned that as taking place further south. Anyway, I thought that I'd post a picture of a church that has some connection to Roots. One of the key white families worshiped here. This building dates to the era of Reconstruction and at least one of the family members is buried here. The original building was taken down and, as I understand it, rebuilt nearby as a store. A picture of the now-empty store is below the fold, if that's of any interest (or help). Any guesses as to which church this is and how it's related to the story of Roots?

A tough one!
But I believe it's the Cross Roads Presbyterian Church in Mebane (Alamance County). The second photo is the Stainback Store. And Murrays are the family mentioned.
Yes, you're right, Owen! You're still the king of monuments/building trivia.
This is the church where the Murrays — owners of Haley's ancestors during the late pre-Civil War era — lived (after being sold from Caswell County). Alamance County is quite the beautiful place this time of year, which unfortunately doesn't come through in my photos. It was overcast the day I was up there. Though I have to say that wow was there a lot of violence in Alamance County. About that I'll have some more to say later in the summer I hope when I post my paper on William Saunders and the Klan in North Carolina in the 1860s and 1870s.
