It's a bit startling to think that we've reached the 1 million visitor landmark. In February 2008, I was pondering starting an interdisciplinary blog – in fact, the original name for the blog was going to be Blurblawg – blurring disciplinary lines. (And guess what! The alternative address of this blog is actually www.blurblawg.typepad.com.) But Faculty Lounge seemed like a better organizing concept, capable of covering the whole blurblawg waterfront – and more.
Our motley crew of bloggers has had ups and downs, as in all of these operations. But we've also functioned a bit differently – people float in and out of The Lounge more fluidly than some of other weblogs. We've never bothered with ads. We don't really have a set voice or perspective. We're nerdy academics some of the time, and chit-chatters other times. And our goal is to attract a diverse readership of profs, law students, lawyers, and people selling faux Viagra and college essays. (That final group has a particular penchant for commenting, it seems.)
The good news is that our formula seems to be working. So thank you for coming by and supporting us. Thanks for commenting. And special thanks to all of our colleagues at the other blawgs who gave us shout-outs at the beginning, and continue to make the blawgosphere a worthwhile destination for regular readers.
Update: My initial post got our start date wrong by a year. We launched in 2008, not 2007. I've made the correction.
Congats! 🙂
Congrats, Dan. You've created a very good blog, and I'm not surprised at the traffic that has followed.
Dan, thanks for inviting me to be part of the team!
Congratulations! I think that I may have been the 1,000,000 visitor and would like to know where I should go to collect my prize. (More seriously, I've really enjoyed the blog and was very glad to have the opportunity to take part in some small ways.)
