Rutgers-Newark decided to go outside the academy to find a replacement for outgoing law dean Stuart Deutsch. John Farmer, a founding partner of the law firm Arseneault, Whipple, Farmer, Fassett and Azzarello in Chatham, New Jersey, will take over from Deutsch this summer. Farmer was the Attorney General of New Jersey from 1999-2002. From 2003-2004, he was senior counsel with the National Commission on Terrorist Attacks Upon the United States. He has held a number of other high profile government jobs and was also a partner with K&L Gates, in Newark. He has a B.A. and a J.D. from Georgetown. The press release is here.
I hope he'll be a great dean, but I also hope he'll get a friendlier looking photo! You'd hate to have to talk to him from that one. Smile, man!
