From an email message that I received yesterday:
LOYOLA UNIVERSITY CHICAGO SCHOOL OF LAW invites applications from qualified lateral candidates to serve as the next Director of the Law School’s Center for Advocacy. Depending on the qualifications of the candidate, the appointment may be on either a tenured, tenure-track, or long-term contract basis. While candidates with a proven track record of scholarship are preferred, the primary qualifications for this position are trial experience and the ability to teach advocacy skills to aspiring trial lawyers. The position carries significant administrative responsibilities with it.
The Director is responsible for all aspects of the Law School's Center for Advocacy, supervising the Center’s Assistant Director and the Director for Alternative Dispute Resolution. He or she will oversee curriculum development in both the J.D. certificate program and L.L.M. degree program in advocacy. It is also expected that the new Director will participate in the development of an ongoing CLE program in advocacy. Loyola is proud to serve as the Midwest Regional Center for NITA. The new Director will maintain this important affiliation which entails running the NITA Regional Trial Advocacy Program, and supporting the NITA Regional Deposition Program. The Director will also be expected to assist in the creation of a new International Arbitration Competition in affiliation with NITA, as well as other NITA programs as they arise. Loyola is also home to the acclaimed Philip H. Corboy Fellowship Program in Trial Advocacy. The new Director will oversee this program, which includes the annual selection of ten J.D. students as fellows. He or she will also participate in the training of these students, and the monitoring of their progress in mock trial competitions. In fulfilling his or her teaching responsibilities as a member of the full-time faculty, it is expected that the new Director will teach courses frequently associated with advocacy such as Criminal Law, Evidence, Civil Procedure, Trial Practice, or other courses, depending upon his or her experience. With the assistance of other administrative staff, the Director will be responsible for recruiting trial practice faculty and hiring actors to serve as witnesses for trial practice courses and programs.
