Hiring Announcement: Mercer University School of Law

From a recent email message:

Mercer University's School of Law is searching for an Academic Success/Bar Exam Specialist on the Macon campus.  The Academic Success/Bar Exam Specialist will focus on implementing strategies and programs to enhance students’ and graduates’ success on the bar exam. The candidate will work on multiple levels to meet this objective, including providing individual support for current students and graduates (including graduates who are re-taking the bar exam), delivering school-wide instruction on bar exam topics and strategies, and collaborating with administration, faculty, and staff to enhance bar exam passage rates. Additionally, the candidate will work, in conjunction with the Associate Dean of Academic Success and other academic success professionals, to identify and develop new or existing programs and ideas to further the goal of enhancing bar exam success. The position is part of the Mercer Law School’s Academic Success Program and reports to the Associate Dean of Academic Affairs.

Qualifications:

A JD from ABA accredited Law School and one year of prior experience providing academic support to law students (which may include delivering instruction, tutoring, or both). Additionally, candidates must also have a valid Georgia Bar License. Must possess a collegial management style with the ability to collaborate with others. Must have a strong academic record.

CFP: International Business Law Roundtable

This just in:

On September 27, 2024, the Dennis J. Block Center for the Study of International Business Law (Block Center) will sponsor a Scholars’ Roundtable at Brooklyn Law School. Scholars writing in a diverse range of fields related to international business, economic, and financial law are invited to submit proposals to present works in progress for an intense day of discussion with other scholars in the field. Participants will be expected to read all papers in advance of the Roundtable and offer commentary on each of the presentations. The event will be in person and participating scholars are expected to attend the full Roundtable in person. Participating scholars who come from outside the New York City area will receive a $500 stipend from Brooklyn Law School.

Requirements for Submission

  • Applicants must hold a full-time position (including visitor/fellowship) at a law school or university. Scholars from outside the U.S. are encouraged to apply.
  • Scholars who anticipate holding a fulltime faculty appointment in 2025-2026 are welcome to
  • Applicants should submit a 1-3 - page proposal, abstract, or summary of the paper. All papers presented must be unpublished at the time of the Roundtable. Papers that have been accepted for publication but are not yet in print are welcome.
  • Papers relating to any area of international business law are welcome. This is construed broadly to include all aspects of international economic law (trade, investment, tax, and finance), transnational business regulation, cross-border transactions, law relating to multinational business enterprises and securities, and international business disputes.

Applicants should submit a proposal at this link by June 28, 2024. Scholars selected to present at the Roundtable will be notified by July 12, 2024.

Hiring Announcement: George Mason University Antonin Scalia Law School

George Mason University Antonin Scalia Law School invites applications for entry-level or lateral faculty positions to begin August 2025. Beginning and experienced candidates are encouraged to apply. Tenured positions will need to follow normal tenured faculty hiring processes at the Law School and the University.

Required qualifications:

  • At least one of the following degrees: J.D., LL.M., J.S.D., S.J.D., Ph.D., or D.Phil.;
  • For lateral candidates seeking tenure, significant teaching, scholarship, and service experience sufficient to be awarded tenure;
  • For junior lateral and entry-level tenure-track candidates, some experience with legal scholarship that includes published or in-progress scholarly works;
  • Demonstrated in-depth knowledge and interest in one or more areas of law;

  • Highly developed analytical skills; and
  • Excellent verbal and presentation skills.

Hiring Announcement: Northern Kentucky University Salmon P. Chase College of Law

Northern Kentucky University Salmon P. Chase College of Law invites applications for the position of Interim Director of Academic Success and Bar Preparation, with an anticipated start date of August 1, 2024.  This is a 12-month, full-time, non-tenure-track position, with a one-year appointment. Chase will be conducting a national search for a permanent Director of Academic Success and Bar Preparation in the fall to begin in August 2025. The Interim Director is eligible to be a candidate in that search. The salary range for the interim position is $75,000 to $85,000 (plus benefits). 

The Director’s primary responsibility will be to help students develop the skills needed to reach their full academic potential for performance in law school and on the bar exam. Responsibilities include: (1) implementing academic support programs; (2) directing the law school’s bar exam preparation programs; and (3) teaching the law school’s academic support and bar preparation courses, along with other members of the Chase faculty. The Director will supervise and collaborate with of the Assistant Director of Academic Success and Bar Preparation. Candidates must be willing to provide academic support for students in the evening division.  Applicants must have a J.D., a strong academic record, excellent organizational and interpersonal skills, the ability to work collaboratively, and excellent communication skills.

Founded in 1893, the Salmon P. Chase College of Law has for over 130 years provided service to students and the legal community throughout the Commonwealth of Kentucky and across the Ohio River to Cincinnati and throughout the region. Daniel Abebe Named Dean of Columbia Law

Abebe-daniel-072022-news (1)Columbia Law has announced that Daniel Abebe will be its next dean.  He is currently vice provost for academic affairs and governance at the University of Chicago and professor of law at the University of Chicago Law School.  Abebe, who holds a JD from Harvard and a Ph.D in Political Science from the University of Chicago, will take over on August 1.

CFP: 2025 AALS Criminal Procedure Works In Progress Panel

This just in:

The Executive Committee of the AALS Criminal Procedure Section welcomes applications for participation in a Works in Progress panel at the 2025 AALS Annual Meeting, which will take place in San Francisco on January 8-11, 2025.

We invite faculty of any category or status at any career stage who are working on criminal procedure scholarship to apply. Co-authored projects are welcome, as are those that transcend disciplinary boundaries and/or engage diverse methodologies and perspectives. Priority will be given to scholarly projects that have not yet been accepted for publication. Panelists will be expected to circulate a draft of their project to co-panelists in advance of the conference, and to read and provide feedback on the submissions of other panelists. To apply, please submit a summary of no longer than 500 words that describes your project and specifies whether or not it has been accepted for publication.
