I've Just Seen a Face [UPDATED]

"I've Just Seen a Face" was released in the U.S. in 1965 on the Beatles' album Rubber Soul (it was on Help in the UK). It was written and sung by Paul, who also played guitar -- there was no bass on the cut. 

McCartney called it a "skiffle" song (see below) although the original cut (at the bottom of the post) had a decidedly non-skiffle introduction. It has since been covered mostly as a bluegrass or C&W song. There are no live clips of it by the Beatles, but Paul performed it often with Wings. I don't know if left-handed Paul played the 12-string on the album, but he sometimes played one with Wings.

The University of South Dakota Knudson School of Law seeks to hire an entry-level or lateral professor, dependent upon qualifications, with expertise in the field of civil procedure.  This position is on the tenure track and will start at the beginning of the 2025-2026 academic year.   This position teaches Civil Procedure I and Civil Procedure II to 1L students.  Additional courses to complete this position’s course package will be subject to negotiation.  Individuals appointed to tenure-track positions are expected to fulfill the tripartite responsibilities of teaching, scholarship, and service. The successful applicant must be a licensed attorney in a United States jurisdiction (a state or the District of Columbia) or able to be licensed at the time appointment begins.

CFP: Heirs' Property and its Ties to Generational Wealth, Gentrification and Fraudulent Deeds

The Florida A&M (FAMU) University Law Review is accepting submissions for its Spring 2025 Symposium Edition!

The FAMU Law Review is a student-run organization at the FAMU College of Law. FAMU Law Review will host its symposium on Heirs’ Property and its ties to generational wealth, gentrification, and fraudulent deeds in February 2025. The symposium will tentatively take place on February 22, 2025. All authors who accept a publication offer should be available to travel to the FAMU College of Law campus in Orlando, FL, that weekend to present their papers.

This symposium aims to bring people from various disciplines together to discuss issues and possible solutions related to "Heirs’ Property." Heirs’ Property is a state of ownership that occurs when property is transferred between generations without a proper testamentary

instrument, leaving the property in limbo. This state of ownership affects the values of property and the ability of future generations to produce and pass on wealth between generations. While this Symposium will primarily focus on the issue of Heirs’ Property, we will also consider articles related to other real property issues, including, but not limited to, the creation of black generational wealth, financial literacy, the importance of property ownership for low-income minorities, gentrification, and fraudulent deeds. While we prefer articles focusing on the State of Florida, we are also happy to review articles discussing these issues nationally.

Please submit your paper by August 1, 2024 to [email protected] Articles should be between twenty and thirty pages, including footnotes, double-spaced, Times New Roman, and 12-point font. Citations should adhere to the Bluebook. The symposium is set to take place on February 22, 2025. The FAMU Symposium Edition Law Review is scheduled to be published within several weeks after the Symposium.

Jeffrey Rensberger Named Interim Dean of South Texas Law

Professor Jeff Rensberger has been named interim dean of South Texas College of Law Houston effective June 17.  Rensberger joined the law school in 1988 and holds a JD from Indiana University at Bloomington.

Morse Tan Stepping Down as Dean of Liberty Law School

Liberty University School of Law has announced that Morse Tan will step down as dean to serve as the senior executive director of Liberty's Center for Law & Government, effective July 1.  Tan joined the law school in 2022.  Tim Todd, who joined Liberty in 2012, will serve as interim dean. Todd holds a JD from Liberty Law and a Ph.D from Kansas State. 

Terence Lau Named Dean of Syracuse Law

Syracuse University College of Law has announced that Terence Lau will be its next dean.  He is currently a professor of management at California State University, Chico, and served as dean of the Chico State's business school  from 2018-2023.  He also served as Chico State's interim provost and vice president for academic affairs from July 2023 to February 2024.  Lau, who holds a JD from Syracuse, will take over on August 5th.
