Loyola University Chicago School of Law invites applications for a full-time, tenure-track, Assistant Professor of Law, with expertise in Health Law beginning around July 1, 2024. This position is open to scholars concentrating in any area of health law or health policy, but preference will be given to candidates focusing on public health law who can assist in fostering interdisciplinary connections with the recently established Parkinson School of Health Sciences and Public Health. This faculty position will be part of Loyola Law’s top ranked Beazley Institute for Health Law & Policy. Preference will be given to candidates willing to teach other major doctrinal courses, including but not limited to Business Organizations, Civil Procedure, Criminal Procedure (Adjudication), Contracts, Criminal Law, Torts, or Professional Responsibility. Ability and interest to teach in the hybrid format in our part-time/weekend JD division will also be considered as a part of the review process.
Applicants must present a JD with excellent academic credentials, evidence of outstanding scholarship or scholarship potential, and a devotion to teaching and mentoring students. Job Qualifications
The qualifications required for the position are:
- Juris Doctor degree (J.D.) from an accredited institution;
- Established publication record in health law and policy;
- Clearly developed research agenda; and
- Strong commitment to social justice issues as they relate to health law and policy.
Additional valued qualifications include:
- Practice experience in health law and policy or related area;
- History of active engagement with legal practice groups in areas related to health law and policy; and
- Established record of interdisciplinary research, publication, and teaching.
Job Responsibilities
The responsibilities of the position will include:
- Scholarly research and publication;
- Teaching one to two courses in health law and policy and related areas of individual expertise per semester, and willingness to teach other major doctrinal course(s).
- Service to the School of Law, University, and community;
- Participation in School of Law faculty governance and committee work;
- Active involvement in student mentoring and advising;
- Engagement with Beazley Institute faculty on health law and policy matters both within the School of Law and throughout the University; and
- Significant engagement with academic institutions and professional organizations in health law and policy, including frequent participation in local, regional, and national meetings and symposia.
