Open-Rank Faculty Member in the School of Law
High Point University School of Law invites applicants to serve on its inaugural full-time faculty and teach its first class of J.D. students, who will begin in August 2024. Candidates will have the exciting opportunity to work in a highly collaborative environment with a holistic approach to legal education that focuses on the doctrinal knowledge, practical skills, and values-based professional identity students need for success in a rapidly evolving legal profession. Candidates should have a passion for teaching, scholarship, and service, and should possess an entrepreneurial spirit and be well-suited to work in a collegial and student-oriented culture.
As a new law school, HPU School of Law is seeking candidates who have broad teaching interests, but primarily seeks those who will teach the following courses in its first-year curriculum: Civil Procedure, Property, Torts, Constitutional Law, Criminal Law, and Legal Research & Writing. Candidates should indicate in their cover letter the topical areas in which they would like to teach. In addition to teaching courses in the School of Law, faculty responsibilities will include (1) contributing to the scholarly mission of the School of Law; (2) advising and mentoring students; and (3) participating in law school and University service as assigned.
The School invites applicants from entry-level to those seeking a tenured appointment. Entry-level candidates need not have any prior law school teaching experience but must show significant promise for excellence in teaching, scholarship, and service. The School encourages applications from diverse candidates who will contribute to the school’s stimulating intellectual environment. Salary and academic rank will be commensurate with each candidate’s qualifications and experience. The anticipated start date for these positions is June 3, 2024.

Open-Rank Clinical Professor of Law and Director of Community Law Clinic
High Point University School of Law invites applicants to serve as a Clinical Professor of Law and the inaugural Director of its Community Law Clinic. HPU School of Law will welcome its inaugural class of J.D. students in August 2024. The selected candidate will be responsible for (1) developing HPU Law’s Community Law Clinic and overseeing the clinic’s grants and funding and (2) developing HPU Law’s innovative pro bono program for first-year and upper-level students. The Community Law Clinic and pro bono program will concentrate on addressing the legal needs of those of limited means in the High Point and greater Piedmont Triad community. As a clinical faculty member, the selected candidate will also teach classes in their area of expertise and supervise and mentor the students in the clinic. In addition, the selected candidate will participate in law school and University service as assigned and, depending on rank, will contribute to the scholarly mission of the School of Law.
Salary and academic rank, including whether the position is tenured, tenure-track, or non-tenure track, will be commensurate with the selected candidate’s qualifications, experience, and preferences. Each of the options—tenured, tenure-track, or non-tenure track—involves or can lead to security of position.
