The University of Detroit Mercy School of Law seeks applicants for a visiting faculty position to teach Property and/or Legal Research and Writing, commencing July 2022. The School anticipates conducting searches for tenure-track positions in the fall of 2022, and the visitor would be welcome to apply.
About the Positions
At Detroit Mercy Law, Property Law is a two-semester, six-credit course. The visitor would also teach another course of their choice each semester. Sections of the course are about 70 students.
The Law School’s legal research and writing course, Applied Legal Theory and Analysis (ALTA), is a two-semester, seven-credit course. The course is team taught with the law librarians teaching one credit of legal research each semester. The first semester, which is three credits, focuses on predictive writing, while the second semester, which is four credits, focuses on persuasive writing and advocacy. Sections are about 22 – 24 students. The visitor would also teach another course of their choice each semester.
The visitors will be will be eligible for research support and funding, as well as teaching assistance, for the duration of the visitorship.
Qualifications
Candidates should have a Juris Doctor degree, strong academic background, and experience as a practicing lawyer. We are pleased to accept applications from experienced law teachers, as well as those interested in beginning a career in legal academia.
