Cardozo Law School invites applications for a Visiting Assistant Professor (VAP) and Director of the Heyman Center on Corporate Governance. The opening is for a two-year appointment with the possibility of renewal for an additional one or two-year term. Expected to commence July 1, 2022.
The VAP will spend four semesters in residence at the law school. During that time the VAP will engage in research and writing in preparation for entry into the market for tenure-track teaching positions, teach one course per year in a corporate-law subject, and develop programming in support of the Center’s mission as a center of scholarly excellence and student engagement in issues of business law. The VAP will work closely with the Faculty Co-Directors of the Center, other corporate law faculty, and various departments at the law school to develop and promote corporate law-related programs at Cardozo.
VAPs participate in faculty workshops, conferences, colloquia, and other facets of the intellectual life of the law school. VAPs are given the opportunity to present works-in-progress to the faculty and, more generally, to receive feedback and mentoring from faculty members in preparation for the academic job market. The position provides promising legal scholars a supportive academic environment, the opportunity to devote substantial time to research and writing, and valuable teaching experience. Cardozo VAPs have gone on to tenure-track positions at a variety of well-respected law schools across the nation, including De Paul, Illinois, Michigan, Vanderbilt and Roger Williams, as well as Cardozo itself.
VAPs earn a $90,000 annual salary, and are provided an office, administrative support, a budget for conferences and research expenses, and health and dental benefits. Applications are invited from law school graduates, and should include (1) a CV, (2) a law school transcript, (3) a statement of the applicant’s research and teaching interest, and (4) a list of three to six references (no letters of recommendation need be sent; we will contact references as necessary). Please submit these to Stewart Sterk (Sterk@yu.edu) with the subject line “Heyman Center VAP Application.” The faculty appointments committee will consider applications on a rolling basis.
