"Statesboro Blues" was written and recorded by Blind Willie McTell in 1928. It has since been covered many times by blues, rock, and country artists.

Neither blues, nor rock, nor country, the Holy Modal Rounders are an acquired taste that may be appreciated by survivors of the 1960s. Guitarist Steve Weber passed away last February. Fiddler and banjo player Peter Stampfel is still alive. They recorded their rendition of "Statesboro Blues" before either Taj Mahal or the Allman Brothers; a few years later they also founded the Fugs along with poet Tuli Kupferberg.
