Lynn Evans Mand was not an original member of the Chordettes, but she joined the group -- which began an all-female barbershop quartette -- in 1953, which was in time to record "Mr. Sandman." Written by Pat Balland, the sheet music to "Mr. Sandman" included both male and female pronouns, and the song was in fact released in both versions, by the Chordettes and the Four Aces, in 1954. Many covers have followed.
