Chicago-Kent College of Law, Illinois Institute of Technology invites nominations and applications for Co-director/Director of the Institute for Law and the Workplace (ILW) and Professor of Law. ILW is a national center for research, training, dialogue, and reflection on the law that governs the workplace, and it serves as an intellectual home for the labor and employment law community, both in the Chicago area and nationwide. ILW includes a certificate program for J.D. students in labor and employment law, a program of conferences, lectures, and other events, and two journals on labor and employment law.
The successful candidate will be a tenured professor of law, will serve as co-director with ILW’s founding director, Professor Martin Malin, during the 2020-21 academic year, and will succeed Professor Malin as director when he retires on May 31, 2021.
Required qualifications include:
· J.D. or Ph.D. in a related field.
· Record of scholarship, including in labor and employment law, appropriate for appointment as a tenured professor.
· Experience teaching labor/employment classes.
· Administrative experience and a commitment to program development.
· Ability to think strategically about the future of labor and employment law and about the needs of the Certificate students and ILW members.
Job duties include:
· Oversee top-ranked J.D certificate program in labor and employment law.
· Develop and maintain relationships with the law firms, corporations and labor unions that are members of ILW.
· Network and facilitate relationships between students and potential employers.
· Coordinate conferences, CLEs, and other events on labor and employment law for ILW members and for the public.
· Develop and maintain relationships with outside organizations such as the ABA Section on Labor and Employment Law, College of Labor and Employment Lawyers, Chicago Chapter of the Labor and Employment Relations Association, The Labor Law Group and the Peggy Browning Fund.
· Oversee ILW’s two publications, Employee Rights & Employment Policy Journal and the Illinois Public Employee Relations Report, and the annual Louis Jackson Memorial National Law Student Writing Competition in Employment and Labor Law.
· Collaborate with Admissions, Development, Career Services, Public Affairs, CLE, and other offices at Chicago-Kent and the Illinois Institute of Technology.
· Supervise a program associate/production editor who provides administrative support for ILW.
