Asher Durand’s Progress is now in the Virginia Museum of Fine Arts. Previously, Progress was in the private collection of Jack Warner of Tuscaloosa, Alabama. There is a story about in the Richmond Times-Dispatch. It was the most expensive VMFA ... forty million dollars.
Ten years ago I published the Progress when I published “Property and Progress: Antebellum Landscape Art and Property Law” in the McGeorge Law Review.
