The University of Tennessee's law school is hosting the conference, "Title IX: History, Legacy, and Controversy" on March 2 and 3, 2017 to address Title IX issues regarding athletics and education, campus sexual assault, procedural and evidentiary issues in sexual assault cases, media coverage of Title IX issues, and more. They are holding this in honor of Pat Summitt, former University of Tennessee Lady Vols Basketball Coach. Acclaimed as the “face of the Title IX generation” and the winningest ladies’ basketball coach in history, Summitt dedicated much of her four decades as the Lady Vols coach to the growth of women in sports. Their goal is to further develop the discussion surrounding Title IX while honoring her incredible legacy.
Deborah Brake, John E. Murray Faculty Scholar and Professor of Law, University of Pittsburgh School of Law will deliver the keynote. Other speakers include leading law professors, practitioners, and scholars from related disciplines who specialize in Title IX: Catherine Archibald (Detroit Mercy), Kif Augustine-Adams (Brigham Young), Erin Buzuvis (Western New England), Nancy Chi Cantalupo (Barry), Neena Chaudhry (National Women’s Law Center), Dawn Corwin (Tennessee), Joan Cronan (Tennessee), Margaret Drew (U. Massachusetts), Liam Dunn (Case Western Reserve), Becky Jacobs (Tennessee), Barbara Osborne (UNC), Brian Pappas (Michigan State), Dara Purvis (Penn. State), Amber Roessner (Tennessee), Drew Simshaw (Georgetown), Erin Whiteside (Tennessee), and Verna Williams (Cincinnati).
