TITLE IX: HISTORY, LEGACY, AND CONTROVERSY In Honor of Former Lady Vols Coach Pat Summitt
Call for Papers and Presentations
Deadline October 21, 2016
We are seeking proposals for papers and presentations to be presented during the Title IX: History, Legacy, and Controversy conference to be held at the University of Tennessee College of Law on March 2-3, 2017 in Knoxville, Tennessee. The conference is co-sponsored by the University of Tennessee College of Law, the Tennessee Journal of Race, Gender, & Social Justice, and Law Women. The conference’s keynote speaker is renowned Title IX scholar, Professor Deborah L. Brake, John E. Murray Faculty Scholar and Professor of Law at University of Pittsburgh School of Law.
This conference will honor Pat Summitt as the Lady Vols Basketball Coach at the University of Tennessee. Acclaimed as the “face of the Title IX generation” and the winningest ladies’ basketball coach in history, Summitt dedicated much of her four decades as the Lady Vols coach to the growth of women in sports. Our goal is to further develop the discussion surrounding Title IX while honoring her legacy. The conference will focus primarily on athletics-related issues within the scope of Title IX. It will also address related issues under Title IX that impact gender and racial equality and inclusion, including but not limited to sexual harassment and assault on campus, inclusion of LGBT students, and employment-related issues pertaining to pay equity and compensation.
We seek to bring scholars, professors, and all who are interested in the law together in a supportive atmosphere to foster scholarship and networking. We invite proposals from those in all disciplines and practices, including full-time faculty members, fellows, visitors, and adjuncts who teach in undergraduate or graduate schools; judges; practitioners; government officials; and business, community, and non-profit leaders. Presentation and Publication Opportunities The conference will include a combination of panels and plenary lectures related to Title IX and will draw predominantly from the Call for Papers and Presentations. We also invite presenters to submit an article or essay for publication with the Tennessee Journal of Race, Gender, & Social Justice. The Journal will select articles from the proposals for publication in its Spring 2017 publication.
Proposal Submission Process
Interested persons should submit a brief written description of the proposed paper or presentation (no more than 500 words) and a résumé. If you would like to publish an article on your discussion topic, or already have a draft ready of a corresponding article, please note this in your proposal. Ideal articles or essays for publication in the Tennessee Journal of Race, Gender, & Social Justice typically range in length from 6,000-12,000 words. Please use the subject line “Title IX Proposal” and e-mail these materials to Tabitha Johnson ([email protected]) by October 21, 2016. We will notify selected speakers by November 4, 2016. Preference will be given to those willing to submit an article or essay for publication. Participants will be responsible for their own travel and lodging expenses.
Please direct questions regarding this Call for Papers and Presentations to Tabitha Johnson ([email protected]), Prof. Valorie K. Vojdik ([email protected]) or Prof. Judy Cornett ([email protected]).

I am going to go out on a limb here and guess the faculty advisor for that publication is not Glenn Reynolds. Speaking of UT law school, any chance of a TFL post on that worthy?
