The National Journal reports that Charleston Law is rehiring several faculty it fired a year ago.
Seven Charleston School of Law professors who were fired last summer amid InfiLaw Corp.’s unsuccessful bid to buy the school will return to campus in the fall of 2016 in a deal brokered by new owner Ed Bell. “How could I not bring them back as part of the turnaround?” said Bell, a Charleston, South Carolina, attorney who bought a controlling stake in the law school in October and who plans to turn the for-profit school into a nonprofit. “These professors are what has made this school great.” Three of the fired faculty members are returning in administrative roles. Another three will be given emeritus status with the expectation that they will teach, said dean Andy Abrams. The seventh professor, Nancy Zisk, was restored to the faculty last fall by a judge after she sued the law school, alleging that her firing was retaliation for opposing the InfiLaw sale.
