My friend Brando Starkey, who's a staff writer for ESPN's "The Undefeated," has a powerful piece about "Katrina and Better Black Lives" up on the ESPN website. Long-time faculty lounge readers may recall that Brando visited with us a while back -- and also that he's the author of a powerful and controversial book from Cambridge University Press that defends the use of the epithet "Uncle Tom."
It's not that "America had been unwilling to treat [you] equally." It's that the South that has (yes the North has had its moments too, but there isn't an majority self-righteous, victimized mob up here the way there is down there). Enough already! Why can't we split this country up? There are clearly inreconcibale values, and even languages (I'm an Indian American just like that moron Governor of Lousiana, but his English is exponentially more incoherent than that of my immigrant parents).
To the segment in the South that wants to secede. We'll welcome your African-Americans and any other minorities. We'll give you Staten Island in exchange. Then we can bid each other "Bye Felicia!!"
