The University of Michigan Law School seeks applicants for the position of Director of Academic and Legal Writing Support. This is a full-time, two-year appointment as a Clinical Assistant Professor on our Legal Practice faculty with the possibility of renewal and eventual progression to a long-term, presumptively renewable agreement.
In this newly created position, the Director will predominately work with first-year students in several settings. The Director’s primary responsibility will be to help law students develop the professional skills and strategies needed to be an effective writer in both professional and academic settings. The Director will support students both individually and programmatically, as well as through training in, and oversight and enhancement of our longstanding peer tutoring program. The Director will also build upon our existing library of reference and self-help materials and develop programs designed to help make our students even more effective writers.
Because this is an inaugural position, the Director will have significant latitude in the development of these programs and materials. We thus seek creative candidates with a nuanced understanding of legal writing and a vision for, and commitment to, helping every student reach his or her fullest potential. Qualified candidates must have a J.D., a strong academic record, relevant professional experience, and demonstrated interpersonal and administrative skills. Prior teaching experience is strongly preferred.
We will begin reviewing applications on July 17th, 2015, and will continue to accept them until the position is filled. The anticipated start date is sometime during the fall, 2015 term, and will be based on the qualified candidate’s availability. Questions can be directed to Associate Dean David Santacroce at dasanta@umich.edu or 734-763-4319. Applicants should send a letter of interest and résumé to:
