On February 28, UNC will be hosting its nineteenth annual conference on "race, class, gender, and ethnicity." Cribbing from the announcement:
As of 2013, nearly 13% of the United States population, that is, approximately 40 million people, was foreign born. Over the last two decades, the population of immigrants in Southern states has been increasing at a rapid rate. In North Carolina alone, the population of immigrants grew 274% between 1990 and 2000.
This year’s 19th Annual Conference on Race Class Gender and Ethnicity, Southern Hospitality? The Immigrant Experience in the U.S. South, considers the many, often daily, challenges that immigrants living in Southern communities may experience. To discuss these issues, the Conference invites practitioners, academics, advocates, and local community members. This year, we will examine topics such as labor, education, family, and the criminal justice system from the immigrant perspective. The schedule is here.
The Conference will be held in the Rotunda of UNC Chapel Hill’s law school on February 28, 2015, from 9:00 a.m. until 4:00 p.m.
Registration for the conference is now open. Participation is free for all area students, $20 for community members/non-area students/non-CLE attorneys (although no one will be turned away for lack of funds), and $100 for CLE applicants.
