I am so sorry to report that Pam Bridgewater has passed away, at far too young an age. Pam taught for many years at American University's law school and she was a scholar of reparations. I first met her probably a dozen or maybe thirteen years ago when I heard her present a paper on slavery and reparations. The paper felt very fresh and innovative. It later appeared as Ain't I a Slave: Slavery, Reproductive Abuse, and Reparations in the UCLA Women's Law Journal.
As soon as I get somewhere where I can reflect a little more on Pam's work I will post more about it. Here is a lovely memorial.
H/t Imani Perry.
