Though it's been out for a year or more, I finally read Daniel James Brown's The Boys in the Boat. It's far more than an account of that superlative Wahsington Husky eight-oar crew that humbled the Nazis at the 1936 Berlin Olympics. It's a moving tale of how one's life is fulfilled by finding meaning in something much larger than our individual egos. And it's a sober account of the gritty despair and agony that afflicted many people in the "Dirty Thirties" of the Great Depression. Not to be missed; it will bring a tear to your eyes. Better Sunday reading than the New York Times.
