The American Bar Association has named William E. Adams Jr. as the new Deputy Managing Director of the ABA Section of Legal Education and Admissions to the Bar. Adams takes over for Scott Norberg who is returning to the faculty at Florida International. Adams is the Dean and Vice-chancellor for Western State College of Law. He has a JD from Indiana University. The position - which has also been known as the Deputy Consultant - is described thusly at the ABA website:
Supports the officers and Council of the Section of Legal Education and many volunteer committees and projects. Identifies, recruits and inspires volunteers to participate in the accreditation process and ensures that site evaluation teams are properly trained to conduct effective site visits and prepare inspection reports in accordance with established standards.
Don't know Dean Adams, but it seems to me that one of the problems with the ABA's regulation of law schools is that the section's office, its committees and inspection teams are dominated by people from lower-ranked law schools, who have a vested interest in maintaining the status quo and watering down standards, not raising them.
