One of our readers contributed this. I will mention his name after we get this identified. If I mentioned him now, I think this would give it away too easily. This is an observatory constructed in the pre-Civil War era. I don't think it's making this too easy by saying it was designed by someone I write about.
I think it is the older of the two observatories at Ole Miss - Barnard, I think.

Wow--it doesn't take you long to figure this stuff out, Brian. It is the Barnard Observatory at Ole Miss. Richard Gershon, who's dean of the law school, sent it along. (Didn't want to mention this in the post or I think it would have been obvious where the observatory is.) I write about Frederick Barnard, who was Chancellor at Ole Miss before the War and later president at Columbia.
