University of Pittsburgh law professor David Garrow has an essay review on Robert Belton's posthumously published The Crusade for Equality in the Workplace: The Griggs v. Duke Power Story. It appears in the most recent issue of the Vanderbilt Law Review.
This is going to be a big year for scholarship on the history of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 and its interpretation. Very hard for me to believe that the act is fifty years old this year, but I'm certain we're going to have a lot of retrospectives on the act. Those interested in the latest assessment of Griggs, as well as the Civil Rights Act of 1964 more generally, will want to read Garrow's essay.
