For those of us who had the opportunity to meet and work with Katherine when she was teaching at Chapman Law, the experience was incredible. Her work and committment for LGBTQ rights, as well as her passionate and insightful stands against the U.S. government's torture practices, were brave ones—especially in Orange County. Katherine's passing happened way too early, but her work and memory live on in many ways, including this scholarship opportunity for southern Californian law students.
More details about the first recipient, incoming UC Irvine School of Law student Jordan Aiken, can be found here. More information about the M. Katherine Baird Darmer Equality Scholarship and the foundation supporting it can be found here.
