The newest voume summary from LSAC is out and it indicates that, as of February 15, 2013, applications have increased to the point that law schools are now down a mere 18.9% in total applicants and 22% in total applications. A total of 39,351 people have applied to law school. If this pace continues, we would expect to see just short of 55,000 applicants this cycle.
140 law schools are down over 20% in applications; 73 are down over 30%. There are always outliers, but this year not so many. 2 schools are up 10% or more; a mere 6 are up any number at all.
Could the widespread waiver of application fees be contributing to an increase in apps? (it seems waivers were practically nonexistent a few cycles ago).

Please correct the post: "down a mere 18.9% in total applicants and 22% in total applicants"
