I was going to use this as a courthouse trivia question, but if you look closely at the gold lettering on the front of the building you'll see "Spotsylvania County Courthouse." So I figured it wouldn't be much of a question! I took this recently on a trip through the county. I actually hadn't planned on making this side-trip, but an accident on I-95 caused me to get off I-95 and onto Route 1.
It is located in the town known as "Spotsylvania Courthouse." The name says what it is. This building goes back to the 1850s -- and is a sign of the extraordinary prosperity that existed at the end of the old South. Even today it's a beautiful and impressive brick building. Makes me think that one of these days I'd like to take a look at some of the probate records there from the antebellum era.
