Bill Turnier sends along this ESPN story about my former University of Alabama colleague Gene Marsh's work on behalf of Penn State. That was high stakes they were playing for. People interested in monument law will be interested to see that the JoePa Statue makes a cameo appearance in the article.
Update: Dan Filler -- who is also a former University of Alabama colleague with Gene and me (though none of us are still at UA) -- predicated a while back that Gene would be the go-to guy for Penn State's NCAA troubles. And I should add that Gene was an absolutely fabulous teacher and colleague at UA. When I arrived there in 2001 I was already an experienced teacher, but I learned a ton from him about teaching. Among his many talents were the ability to take complex concepts and make them understandable without sacrificing nuance. Extremely difficult to do.
