It's my pleasure to announce that Jill Fraley of Washington and Lee's law school is stepping into the faculty lounge to sit with us for a spell. Jill was educated at Yale College and Duke Law School and she holds a JSD from Yale. Jill teaches property, environmental law, and legal history and practiced in environmental law and property.
You may recall that Jill's putting together a conference at W&L this October on climate change in the former colonialies. This is a piece of her extraordinary work, which links legal history and property across centuries. Her work spans the settling of British North America to Appalachia in the twentieth and twenty-first centuries. For instance, she's working on ways that maps tell us about colonial attitudes toward property west of the Appalachian mountains in the eighteenth century. And then there's the project on the wastelands.... Well, I'll let Jill fill you in on the details. This is really terrific and creative and new work.
Welcome, Jill!
