The New York Times has published an expose of corruption in Walmart de Mexico. The Times reports that Walmex paid $24 million in bribes. After a brief internal investigation, Bentonville decided to scuttle the investigation by allowing executives implicated to write the final report.
Like many people teaching Corporations this semester, I have mixed feelings. Of course, I want wrongdoing exposed and punished. But, why couldn't the Times have run this story the week before I taught Caremark?
Update: This blog discusses Walmart de Mexico and the FCPA. Here's an article on Walmart's legal troubles, which, entirely by coincidence, quotes me.
Thank you for sharing, the wonderful.
