I've been out of pocket for the past couple of weeks and I've missed blogging on the resignation of University of Baltimore Law Dean Phil Closius. For those who haven't been following the story, Closius' stepped down arguing that UB was taking 45% of the law school's revenue for overhead and the like. The news hit a nerve, particularly in light of the way it neatly interlinked with the recent New York Times story slamming law schools for giving their parent universities too much overhead. Brian Leiter covered the UB story here and here. Paul Caron blogged on it here and here. ATL had it, with their usual élan, here and here.
Today's news is less controversial. Michael Higginbotham, the Wilson H. Elkins Professor of Law at UB, has been named interim dean. He announced that he will not be a candidate for the permanent position. Higginbotham, an equal protection scholar, holds a JD from Yale and played football for Brown. Indeed, he was a member of that memorable 1976 squad that won the Ivy Football crown. But I digress...
