My law school presently doesn’t have an associate dean for faculty research. In the abstract, based on my rather limited conversations with research deans at other schools, the office seems like a good idea.
I would be grateful to learn from others, though—Bridget? Jacqui? What exactly are the duties of an associate dean for research? What obstacles does an associate dean for research face? And how do the deans endeavor to overcome them? Are there any drawbacks to being a dean for research?
John, I was the first such associate dean at our school about 20 years ago. I would be glad to communicate with you about my experiences if you wish to speak with me on the phone. My number is in the directory.

The Legal Scholarship Blog has some good cites for law review and other articles about the ADR position.
