Each year the progressive Society of American Law Teachers (SALT) gives a nod to the Invisible Hand and publishes its salary survey of law faculty compensation in the Equalizer. Markets are more efficient and transparent when participants have reliable price information. SALT's survey does its part to nudge along this market.
The survey is helpful, but this year SALT took a hiatus from the survey to "re-evaluat[e] the methodology of the SALT Survey, exploring ways to improve the accuracy and consistency of the information gathered." I am guessing that one difficulty is low faculty and law school participation. My colleague Beth Lyon is studying the salary survey for SALT. If you have any ideas for improving the survey, please send them to Beth at [email protected].
