Last week, David Getches stepped down after a successful eight year run as dean of the University of Colorado School of Law. Yesterday, he passed away after a short battle with pancreatic cancer. He had intended to return to teaching as the Raphael J. Moses Professor of Natural Resources Law. He joined the Colorado faculty in 1979 after having served as the founding executive director of NARF - the Native American Rights Fund. Among his various decanal successes, he built a new law building and raised almost $29 million in gifts.
He was 68.
I am shocked and saddened to hear this, Dan. His family and the University of Colorado community will be in my thoughts.
