Several sad items in this news story: (1) Lorenzo Charles was killed; (2) he ended his career as a tour bus driver; and (3) people take bus tours of Raleigh, NC. SI and USA Today.
For whatever reason, I really loved that team of “Cardiac Kids” – I practically cry every time I watch this footage of Jim Valvano running around the court looking for someone to hug.

This has to be the most memorable play in college basketball history, right?

Has to be. That whole NC State run from ACC tournament to NCAA win was amazing.

What do you have against tour bus drivers? Your comment sounds like a sterotypical academic disparaging an occupation that doesn't meet your approval.
The bus was on the way to pick up people in Durham so you'll have to ask your friends and neighbors to explain their tour preferences.

Great play, but the thing that stuck out to me was that Akeem (now Hakeem) Olajuwon used his first name on the back of his jersey.

You're right, Brando. Hadn't noticed that.

I was almost as happy to see State win it all then as I have been when UNC has won it all. My biggest disappointment about ACC basketball is that NCSU is not a strong contender, and this from a longtime UNC faculty member.

I'm with you, Bill. It'd be nice if another local team (we will not mention the other blue one) were a contender again.

I agree with Gary, it is a nasty and snobbish thing to say about his occupation. The guy was trying to earn a living.
