Rick Matasar, the high-profile dean and president of New York Law School, has given notice. He will be leaving NYLS during the upcoming school year. Matasar has not shied away from controversy. For example, he has supported the much-criticized proposal to remove provision of tenure from ABA law school accreditation rules. Given the content of his cryptic departure memo (he is apparently "considering positions that will allow me to work with younger students as they find their way to rewarding careers — both in the law and elsewhere"), it seems like a college presidency is a possibility. He previously served as dean at IIT Chicago-Kent and the University of Florida.
