Thanks so much for this - I'm thinking I might use it as an additional illustration of "promissory estoppel" - currently what I use right now is a hypo (based on a real event that happened at Cornell a few years ago) in which students were told that they had been admitted (by mistake - they were on the wait list) and took all sorts of detrimental reliance based on that communication.
