My favorite mascot fight is still the Stanford Tree vs. the Cal Bear:

You can sort of understand a bobcat attacking. It's in its nature, after all, but to be attacked by a tree is really unexpected.

Thanks for that, Matt. I'm still laughing. I think there were aggressive trees in The Lord of the Rings. Tom Bombadil had to rescue Frodo from one in the Old Forest. Also there were some nasty trees in Fangorn Forest.
