How about Maryanne Plunkett and Brent Spiner in 'Sunday in the Park with George' (1983-85?) and then on "Star Trek the Next Generation"? I believe she guest starred on an episode.

Jacqueline Lipton

Good answer, but not the 20ish year gap between the broadway show and the TV series. STNG was only about 10 years after Sunday in the Park with George.

Jacqueline Lipton

Oh, and the sci-fi regular is not Brent Spiner (although he's generally a good answer for most of these questions).

Jeff Yates

Oh well, maybe someone else will have more luck (Scott Bakula matches anyone?).

For what it's worth here's an easier one (although not broadway) - What sci/fi series boasts two stars who appeared, respectively, in two very popular 1980s - "La Bamba" and "Fast Times at Ridgemont High"?

Jacqueline Lipton

OK - well the trick to this one is that the series regular was an understudy in the broadway show when it opened and then took over one of the lead roles. He also starred in the movie version of the musical. The TV series was not a Star Trek series, but was on in the 1990s (around the same time as STNG and Deep Space Nine).

Jacqueline Lipton

Re Jeff's question, both Ray Walston (Fast Times at Ridgemont High) and Stephen Lee (La Bamba) guest starred in Star Trek: The Next Generation. (Or did you mean series regulars, Jeff?)

Jeff Yates

Jacqueline, that's a very good answer, but I mean series regulars - this is probably easier than it seems - here's a hint - this sci/fi show is a current one (unless it's been canceled recently).

Jacqui Lipton

OK - Caprica stars Eric Stolz (Fast Times at Ridgemont High) and Esai Morales (La Bamba).

Jeff Yates

Jacqui - Excellent! ... and not a bad show for people who miss their BSG. Unfortunately, I still haven't figured your question out yet ...

Heidi Kitrosser

Jacqui's question intrigued me so I couldn't resist doing a bit of research and I believe that the answer is Jeff Conaway (understudy in the original production of Grease and Kinicki in the movie version, regular on Babylon 5) & Adrienne Barbeau (Rizzo in the original production of Grease, guest star on Babylon 5).

I was also reminded when I did the research of something that I'd learned as a kid when my parents took me to see the original Grease production in the '70s -- the woman who originated the role of Sandy on Broadway was also Carol in The Magic Garden, a favorite TV show of little kids on the eastern seaboard in the 70s & early 80s!

Jacqueline Lipton

You got it, Heidi! Good job!
Jeff Conaway was an understudy in the original broadway production of Grease and then I think took over the role of Danny Zuko (originally played by Barry Bostwick). He was also married to Olivia Newton-John's older sister, Rona, for a while.
