A month from today -- August 4 -- is the deadline by which the AALS must receive your FAR Form (and fee) for inclusion in the first distribution of forms to faculty hiring committees. Your world will not end if you miss this deadline, but hiring committees may start filling their DC dance cards before the AALS distributes the second set.
Questions / advice on completing the FAR Form? You'll find commentary at several law blogs, including this Lounge post from last summer.
The ironical part of your link to last year's column is that the post following it was again about doping at the Tour de France. Certain things just happen at certain times of year, I suppose.

So...doping and FAR go together?

I suppose it could depend on whether you're a candidate or a hiring committee . . .

Just a note: You can't pay the fee as of yet. AALS is changing their system or some-such thing, and therefore you cannot submit and pay.
Supposedly AALS will contact those who have tried to submit about how to pay up.
Nevertheless, you can create and edit your FAR form online. You just can't submit and pay.
