With thanks to my colleague, Richard Gordon, for passing this along, today's Chronicle of Higher Education ran a story about business schools outsourcing grading of papers to online services based in Asia. The idea is that professors and TAs who are getting overwhelmed with grading and are unable to give timely and detailed feedback to students can now turn over much of the work to online companies that will grade papers and provide feedback according to rubrics and instructions provided by the professor. The article provides a good analysis of the costs and benefits inherent in this practice.
That's such a sham! Students pay LOTS of money in tuition to study under their professors. How can their professors be shirking their responsibilities by outsourcing the grading of their students' work?
