Making news this past week is that Costa Rica elected its first ever female President. Less noticed is that the new Vice President elect is Luis Liberman. Unlike the US, if you are Jewish and your name is Liberman you can get elected VP in Costa Rica. Latin American Jews in politics are not a new thing. Indeed, in my home country of Panama, we have had a Jewish President. What is perhaps unique, however, is that Liberman may be the first VP of any country whose grandfather was a mohel. From mohel to VP in three generations - what a country! And you thought only Tim Zinnecker had posts on obscure trivia.
Some of you might remember the Seinfeld Bris episode (which also included a sub plot involving the "Pigman"). For most people, the bris is a far easier experience than that portrayed by Seinfeld. We have girls, so this was not an issue for us.
Hyper-linked (for those of you who read Spanish) is a jpg file in which I have scanned the announcement for my bris back in 1974. View this photo
For those wondering what a young Danny looked like, below is a photo of me at three months.
