Move over University of Phoenix. There's a new kid on the ballparks-named-for-educational-institutions block. Thomas Cooley Law School has just purchased naming rights to the downtown Lansing, Michigan facility previously known as Oldsmobile Park. Since Olds went under, GM decided not to renew its contract. In came Thomas Cooley Law School. For the next 11 years, at least, the Lansing Lugnuts - a Class A affiliate of the Blue Jays - will play in Thomas Cooley Law School Stadium. Cooley is paying almost $1.5 million over these eleven years for the opportunity. For those interested, the stadium was built in 1996 and seats 11,000. Impressively, its Wikipedia page has already been updated!
My first thought was that this is poor stewardship of law school funds, but then I wondered--- how much per year do all of those glossy brochures which clog our mailbox cost? If it's more than $136k per year, then this is on par with that expense.
