I know we've been talking a lot about the Oscars lately, but it's shifted my focus from other awards shows going on. I just noticed that the BAFTAs were held over the weekend and notably Kathryn Bigelow was the first female ever to win the Best Director BAFTA (for The Hurt Locker). Must put that one on my list. Full list of winners here. And, of course, for those closet Twi-Hards amongst us, Kristen Stewart won the "Rising Star Award" (possibly not for her work in the Twilight films?). And for those ex-glam-rock afficienados, David Bowie's son, Duncan Jones, won Best Debut (by a Writer, Director or Producer) for directing Moon. I recently saw Moon and it's a pretty good first movie by a new director - a little predictable, but very well done overall in my humble opinion.
Presumably, Stewart won the award at least based in part for her work in Greg Mottola's "Adventureland." Not many people ended up seeing that movie, but I thought that it was one of the best films of the year.

I understand she actually made a lot of films before - and since - the Twilight franchise. But I haven't been able to wade through the list and figure out which ones are worth seeing and which are typical "teen angst" type roles, although I did see Into the Wild (although she had a fairly minor - and I thought somewhat forgettable - role in that one). I might add Adventureland to my DVD list.
