Today, in a unanimous decision, the Baseball Writers' Association of America named Albert Pujols, of my beloved St. Louis Cardinals, as National League MVP. This is the third time that Pujols has received the award, joining an elite group of only nine other players to be so honored. Barry Bonds has won the award seven times, and eight other players have won the award three times.
How many of those eight can you name (without doing any online research)?
Of those eight, how many won their third MVP award earlier in their career than Pujols, who just completed his ninth season?
Answers below the fold.
Pictured: Card #13 from the 2009 Topps "Topps Town" set.
Barry Bonds (won his third MVP award in his eighth season).
Yogi Berra (tenth season).
Roy Campanella (eighth season).
Joe DiMaggio (ninth season).
Jimmie Foxx (fourteenth season).
Mickey Mantle (twelfth season).
Stan Musial (seventh season).
Alex Rodriguez (fourteenth season).
Mike Schmidt (fifteen).

All eight without research would show insufficient commitment to teaching, scholarship and service...so try these three: Mike Schmidt, Yogi Berra and Mickey Mantle...and give a football shoutout to Ron Jaworski who will be joining the National United Way Board..he and his family raised a ton of $$ for youth development programs..r
