I have a couple of occasional series --the law of people magazine, the "this is why...." series (as in this is why it's called the moonlight and magnolia school and this is why it's hard to get good laterals), and new phrases (which includes end of year phrases).
I'm starting a new series today: "you know you live in a University town when ...." politicians put "Ph.D." after their names! How did I come to this realization? I was looking out the window of the bus on the way to work the other day and I thought I saw a "Ph.D." after Joe Green's name on his sign for the upcoming school board election. But, my eyesight being what it is, I wasn't sure. I got a better look at his signs and, yup, "Ph.D." is a key part of his advertisement. For people who live in a university town, that may actually be a good advertisement for a school board candidate.
In case you're voting in the Chapel Hill elections, here's a guide to all the school board candidates.
Also, it's somewhat ironic that "Ph.D." is incorrectly listed as "Phd." Perhaps he didn't have space for an extra period and a capitalized "D."
