Morehouse College (which, as most readers will know, is a private historically black liberal arts college for men) is in the news for its ban on “the wearing of women's clothes, makeup, high heels and purses as part of a new crackdown on what the institution calls inappropriate attire.” CNN story here:
The dress-wearing ban is aimed at a small part of the private college's 2,700-member student body, said Dr. William Bynum, vice president for Student Services.
"We are talking about five students who are living a gay lifestyle that is leading them to dress a way we do not expect in Morehouse men," he said.
Reason’s Tim Cavanaugh has a funny take on why he thinks the ban will be ineffective, which begins by noting that “For as long as men and women have been wearing clothes, men have been finding excuses to dress up like women,” and concludes that “Morehouse is a private school, and it goes without saying that there are countless other colleges for men with a real commitment to fabulousness.”
