Because I'm covering World Wide Volkswagen v. Woodson and Calder v. Jones in Civil Procedure this week, and because I'm a fan of old movies, I couldn't resist the temptation to show this clip of Shirley Jones in her movie debut, Oklahoma! The students' reactions appeared to range from amused to bemused. They should be glad I didn't ride into class in a surrey with the fringe on top.
What? Shirley Jones was a star before The Partridge Family?!?!?!?!?

I was relieved that at least my students knew Shirley Jones from the Partridge Family. Earlier this semester, I was chagrined to discover that not a single one of them had heard of Broderick Crawford. Kids today!

Before Oklahoma!, Shirley Mae Jones was Miss Pittsburgh, 1952. And Pittsburgh still loves her.

I had no idea she was from the 'Burgh. Yet another reason to like that city.
